How to create a gallery wall in a kids room or nursery

Gallery walls are always a good ideas as they look great. I’m considering one for my living room but I think they look fab in any room especially a kids room where you can have so much fun creating one. It’s a great way to update a room that needs a bit of love or just change the look for a new season.

The most obvious way to create a gallery wall is to display lots of shop bought framed prints or even just a few if you prefer a cleaner look. Alternatively large panoramic canvas prints are great for creating a focal point on a wall and they also add a personal touch as you can display a favourite family memory or moment. You can then add smaller prints or other wall hangings around it to create a gallery look.

There are plenty of other creative ways to create gallery walls and some cost almost nothing. You can simply frame your kids artworks to make a very unique gallery wall or you don’t even have to use art. Some of the cutest gallery walls I’ve seen use objects and decorations and even clothes.

Steal the look: Cluster of colourful pendant lights

Have you discovered my steal the look series yet? In this series I share really cool, unusual and clever decor ideas that are easy to steal and re-create in your own home. The last one I shared was a useful and really clever Ikea hack. Today it’s about thinking outside the box with your lighting.

How cool are these pendant lights? A cluster of different light shades hanging from the ceiling with different coloured cords. How original is that? Cluster pendent lights are a big trend at the moment but usually you see 3 or 4 of exactly the same light. Not only does this idea use different (yet complementary) shades but they take it a step further with the colourful cords. Such a playful and fun idea for a kids room. Even if you played with just two colours, it would be very eye-catching.

Fun with vinyl floors!

Whenever you think of re-decorating your rooms or just giving them a refresh, how often do you think of doing something with the floors? I know I tend to look at the walls or the furniture or even the decor because the floors somehow feel more fixed. But actually thats not true. You can change your floors really easily and sometimes that can be just the new look the room needs.

I’m loving the vinyl floor look which is no longer just for bathrooms. Vinyl flooring has come such a long way with so many more finishes, colours and patterns available. While I probably wouldn’t go for vinyl in every room in my home, I think they’re a great and fun option for kids rooms. Apart from being durable, they’re so easy to clean (goodbye paint stains!) and they allow you to have fun. Think stripes or checks or a sea of your favourite colour. 7 bold and beautiful blue kids rooms

White, soft pastels and light greys are some of the most popular colours for kids rooms and nurseries. It’s not hard to see why – I mean who doesn’t love those colours and they’re easy to decorate with. But if you’re after something a bit more unique, more striking or more daring, there is no better colour than blue – lots of it in deep, dark and bold shades (we’re not talking hints of blue or baby blue here!). I’ve noticed a growing trend in blue kids rooms, bedrooms, living rooms, hallways and even kitchens and I’m so drawn to it. There is something so cool and calming about this colour even in it’s darkest shade and so it’s ideal for any age, any gender and any space.

Make a play area in a living room (even in small spaces)

Wouldn’t it be great if we all lived in extra large homes where we could turn one whole room in to a play room? Just imagine never having to see those toys strewn all over the living room. Maybe some of you are lucky enough to have a dedicated playroom for your kids but for most of us the reality is that we share spaces as a family. Living rooms and kitchens often double up as play spaces as well as homework spaces as well as entertaining spaces and so much more. And actually, I love that.

One shelf, one hundred possibilities

As your kids move beyond the baby stage, life starts zooming by even quicker than before. I mean it feels like one minute they’re learning their ABC’s and the next they’re reading to you! That phrase – ‘they grow up too quick’ – that only parents understand, has never meant more to me than now. Knowing this, I’ve realised when decorating your kids room, you have to keep in mind that they grow so quickly. Keeping this reality at the back of your mind will save you money, angst and the headache of re-decorating every year or two. A while ago I shared some ideas on how to design a room your kids won’t outgrow and today I wanted to share this great shelving system that has so, so many possibilities. As far as changeable, practical and adjustable wall shelves go, I don’t think I’ve seen better.

A cool cactus collection

Have you noticed the cool cactus home decor trend? I don’t mean just the actual cactus plants, although they are pretty amazing too and a great option, if like me, you aren’t green fingered. For now I mean the cool cactus prints popping up for all kinds of home decor stuff. The almost sculptural shape of cacti lends itself so well to all kinds of things for the home. When I finish decorating my home, I know I’m going to be adding a few cactus home decor touches and definitely some real cactus which make stylish indoor plants.

Steal the look: A mini door within a door

Today I’m starting a new series on some fun home decorating ideas to steal. As I find them, I’ll share one great decor tip or idea that will add style to your home while also being practical and usually easy to do. Most of all the ideas will all be simple, fun and clever. And always a little unexpected!

There are many ways of adding a little bit of magic to a child’s room. One of the best ways I’ve seen has to be this genius idea for a kids room. Simply make a smaller door within the larger door. Instantly, your child’s entire room will feel like their special secret hideout and which kid wouldn’t love that? This idea is truly an example of really thinking outside the box and coming up with something so fun. What do you think? Do you love it?

Simple and striking wallpapers for kids rooms

One of the easiest ways to refresh a room is to add some wallpaper either as a feature wall or even wallpaper the entire room. It’s usually not expensive to do and can change the look of a room in a few hours. I’m a big fan of wallpaper for any room but especially for a kids room. I usually prefer to stay away from anything too bright, colourful or themed as you want the wallpaper to grow with your kids. One of the best ways to ensure this is to go for a playful yet subtle print in black and white or natural tones. These kinds of wallpapers will stand the test of time often from babyhood to much, much older.

When planning a kids room, I always recommend choosing stuff that will grow with your child. I’ve previously written some tips on how to design a room your kids won’t outgrow but today I wanted to share some of the cutest black and white wallpapers for a kids room that will stand the test of time. These wallpapers are all stylish, playful and fun and they can be combined with any colour decor.
